Jeffrey T. Smith
President/CEO

In 1997, after only 6 years with R.E. Crawford Construction, Inc. Jeff’s early determination to provide high quality workmanship while meeting the most demanding schedules quickly drew the attention of upper management. Jeff worked his way through the ranks from Project Superintendent to President of the REC office in Sarasota, Florida; responsible for the Southeastern United States. He later went on to purchase R.E. Crawford Construction LLC in February 2006. Today, R.E. Crawford Construction LLC continues the tradition of providing uncompromised service to its national clients throughout the United States and Canada. Demand for Jeff’s capabilities necessitated his expansion from a skilled hands-on doer to a successful owner of what is now a multi-million dollar a year corporation. The growth of R.E. Crawford Construction LLC has been credited to his determination to be the best contractor, hire the best people, and deliver a quality product with the highest integrity in the industry.

Jeff is very involved in every aspect of the operations of the company. He personally finalizes bid numbers, oversees weekly staff meetings, handles negotiations, monitors client satisfaction and determines the management team for each project. With even the most daunting of tasks, he has the ability to see them as challenges. Jeff has a vision to be the uncontested best in the industry. His goals are clear and he has a way of motivating staff to become a part of this movement.

Jeff brings the ability to search out innovative solutions to each project. His forward thinking, derived from his years of experience, helps to avoid problems that have not yet surfaced. He anticipates even the most obscure issues that could present problems down the road and addresses the issues immediately. With the help of his team, R.E. Utahna Smith
Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer

Utahna is responsible for all accounting functions and financial management of the company including payroll, human resources and taxes. She also oversees the creation and submission of pay applications to sub-contractors, distribution of contracts, purchase orders, and dealings with all bonding and insurance matters related to various projects. Utahna brings an impressive background with a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alabama and working towards completing her MBA at the University of West Florida. Prior to joining R.E. Crawford Construction LLC, she worked as Physical Therapist for 20 years in various management and consulting positions. Her skills and expertise are a critical component to R.E. Crawford team.


Susan Courter
Director of Business Development

Susan brings over 10 years of experience in customer service, sales, marketing and business consulting. With a Bachelor in Advertising from the University of Florida, she uses her interpersonal skills to develop relationships with corporate level executives, management and staff personnel to construct and maintain cost saving programs and better operating procedures for each client organization. With R.E. Crawford Construction LLC, she is the point person responsible for all communication and acts as a liaison between REC, partners, clients and outside vendors.


Matt Padgett
Chief Operating Officer

With more than 25 years of experience in the construction industry, Matt guides the R.E. Crawford team of professional estimators and project managers through leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure the company provides the highest level of quality and service to our customers.  He is responsible for the oversight of operations to help the team of estimators and project managers set and obtain both short and long term goals which contribute to the success of the business.  Matt has worked on a variety of projects ranging from retail to industrial and holds licenses in a number of states including AZ, CA, FL, LA, MA, NC, SC, TN and WA.


Gene Kunkel
Senior Estimator

Gene has spent over 35 years in the construction industry. During college, he took classes in architectural drafting and later began his career as a carpenter working primarily on industrial and commercial projects. Gene then transitioned into the role of Superintendent where he ran at least one hundred jobs during that 20 year time period.

Prior to joining R. E. Crawford Construction LLC, he held positions as both Project Manager and Estimator for other commercial contractors and has been responsible for the oversight and management of multimillion dollar projects where he headed a team from concept to completion. Gene utilized his communication skills to build and maintain a great working rapport not only with owners, but also with design professionals, contractors and subcontractors. As the Senior Estimator he is often called upon to handle communication between architects and owners to initiate the process of planning, coordinating and directing activities to meet schedule and budget restraints. His expertise and knowledge are an invaluable asset to the R.E. Crawford team.


Alan Shapiro
Senior Project Manager

Alan has proven himself proficient in the management of concurrent multi retail site projects. He prides himself on being detailed oriented and able to maintain excellent client satisfaction. Alan’s responsibilities include sub contract preparation, construction scheduling, sub negotiations, expediting, monitoring project schedules, invoicing, punch list completion and project close out. He has an architectural background and past experience working for a national shopping center developer for whom he was instrumental in the construction of several enclosed malls. For twelve years, Alan was Vice President and later President of a general contracting company which specialized in free standing commercial buildings and renovations of institutional facilities. From 1988 to present, he has been performing national retail store project management in malls and ground up projects as the Senior Project Manager with R.E. Crawford Construction LLC.


Aurora Mundrean
Expeditor

Aurora is responsible for creating and submitting pay applications to sub-contractors, writing and distributing contracts, purchase orders and dealing with all bonding and insurance matters related to various projects. As the liaison between superintendents, project managers and subcontractors, she acts as “mission control” ensuring all communications are transmitted quickly and smoothly. Aurora also manages any matters related to the building departments and sees that invoices and change orders are handled in a timely and efficient manner. She brings an extensive background in sales and account management to R.E. Crawford Construction LLC. Prior to joining the R.E. Crawford team, she worked as an Account Manager with a national orthopedic manufacturer in Manhattan and handled over $1 billion dollars in revenue. Her skills and expertise are a critical component to the R.E. Crawford team.
